Inevitably, the time comes when we must say
goodbye to some of our beloved friends. Some lived a long, full, happy life, and when
the day came, we understood that their time with us must come to an end. Others
were taken from us suddenly, by illness or tragedy, at a time that we didn't
expect it -- a time that seemed far too soon. No matter what circumstance,
every Cat Angel kitty who crosses Rainbow Bridge leaves us with an empty place
in our hearts. We'd like to memorialize some of our dear friends here. (If
you're not familiar with the legend of Rainbow Bridge, you'll find it at the
bottom of this page - click here).
Dixon January 2003
My Forever Friend (A
Tribute To Dixon)
I know that it must be different now that
I am no longer here. I realize how much I was loved and how
all of you did care.
I know it will be hard at first when you
look around for me. Expecting to find me in my bed or beside
my favorite tree.
Someday you will begin to see, although
it’ll take some time, the happy times you shared with me.
the memories are yours and mine.
I’ll remember you, my family, and how much
you meant to me. So please don’t grieve and don’t be sad, it
was just my time to leave.
Fannie Mae
2003
Fannie Mae came to us
in 2003 with one little kitten. They were taken into a loving foster
home and received the best of care. Sadly, not very long after, Fannie
Mae crossed the Bridge. We take comfort in the knowledge that she spent
her last days in a loving home, warm and comfortable and not on the
street hungry and in search of a safe place to raise her little one.
Lindy Lou
March 2005
Lindy Louwas one of the very first cats to come to CAN. For many years, she
lived very comfortably in the Catchen, with her best friend
King Louie. She started to move a bit more slowly during the last year
of her life. At one point, her weight dropped to just over 6 lbs. (from
over 10 lbs!) The shelter volunteers all pulled together
to make her special dinners of baby food and kitten formula and would
spend time coaxing her to eat. Slowly but surely, her strength returned
and the shine came back to her lovely tabby coat. Lindy died peacefully
at the shelter a year later, in the loving arms of her long-time primary
caregiver, surrounded by her best feline friends; King Louie, Terri Tippitoes, and Faye.
Rosie O'Grady
February 2004
Rosie O'Grady lived in the Dixon Room with her
best friends Butterscotch, Virginia, and Whitford. Rosie was a big,
brown & white tabby with a heart of gold under her sometimes
gruff-appearing exterior. She'd give everyone a "don't you pet me"
glare, but if you were gentle and patient, you'd be rewarded with her
gentle purrs as she allowed you to stroke her soft fur.
Boo Bear
April 2003
It's especially sad for us
when kittens cross the Bridge. Darling little
Boo Bear was no exception. He brought a smile to everyone's
face with his adorable little face and kitten capers. There were many,
many sad faces amongst the volunteers when Boo went on his way.
Conner
October 2003
Conner
was rescued with 3 other white kittens and their mother one cold autumn
day. Ten days later, he was taken from us quite suddenly by
panleukopenia. We take
comfort in the knowledge that his brother, sisters, and mother all found
wonderful homes where they are loved and treasured.
Minnie 2004
Little
Minnie had a rough time during her
short time on earth. She received the best possible care and loving
attention from our volunteers. But little Minnie wasn't able to hang on.
Perhaps she wanted to join a beloved feline companion at the Bridge? We
hope so, and although we miss her, we're glad she's finally been
released from the burdens of her illness.
Davia
2004
Dear little
Davia was a very beautiful and very shy little kitten with
silky long fur. She had just gone to her forever home with her brother
Goliath when she fell ill. We know she's waiting at the Bridge
for her brother and the family that loved her so much.
Ella
2005
Ella
was a little calico girl who was just as sweet as can be. She fought
hard, but just couldn't hang on, and now waits for her 4 littermates and
her loving family at the Bridge.
Cameron & Duffie
May 2004
Cameron and
Duffie were two little fluffy black babies who went to
the bridge in their third week of life. Their dear mother, Francesca
(who was just a kitten herself at the time) was very ill when she gave
birth, and these two (of her five) kittens died within days of one
another. They just weren't big and strong enough to fight off a
bacterial infection. Happily, the other 3 kittens responded to
treatment, Francesca herself grew strong and healthy, and all 4 are now
living happily in their forever homes. We take comfort that Cameron &
Duffie have each other to play with at the Bridge while they wait for
the arrival of their beloved family.
Bell Kittens
Spring & Summer 2005
During the spring & summer of 2005, we worked on a large
TNR project with Bell's Auto Service
in West Chester, PA. The adults were all feral and were trapped,
neutered, and returned to their colony. We cared for nearly 20 pregnant
females, whose kittens were raised in foster homes and turned into
darling little housecats. Due to premature deliveries, adult cats who
had never been vaccinated, and inbreeding, more than a dozen kittens
crossed the rainbow bridge - most within the first few days of their
lives. It was difficult time for our foster parents and for the mother
cats, who spent several traumatic months in cages while nursing their
kittens before being spayed and returned to their old, familiar home.
Angelina
2005
Angelina
was
a gorgeous tortie-tabby kitten who was found up a
tree in western Chester County. An incredibly
sweet and affectionate girl, she completely endeared
herself to her foster mom in a matter of moments.
She had the most adorable little meow and loved
to talk to her foster mom. We miss her very much.
Bo
2006
Bo was an
handsome and sweet Maine Coon look-alike who came to
us in the fall of 2005 at the age of 4 months. He
had chronic URI and tested positive for FeLV in
December. His foster mom nursed him and loved him
for about 2 months, but little Bo just didn't have
the will to live and died in January.
Atlanta
& Darling
December 2005 & February 2006
Bo's sister
Atlanta, a sweet dilute tortie, died only a few
weeks after she and her littermates were rescued
from a farm in November 2005. Sister Darling,
a beautiful dilute calico, held on until February,
where she died peacefully in her sleep in her foster
home. Both girls died from complications related to
FeLV.
Nicholas & Alexandra
2006
Alexandra
was an adorable beauty-kitty with fluffy black fur,
a gorgeous puffy tail, and the cutest little
overbite. She & brother Nicholas came to us in the
spring of 2005 as small kittens. After testing
positive for FeLV, they lived in a Cat Angels foster
home and seemed to be thriving despite the positive
test results. Alexandra became ill quite suddenly,
and passed within a few short days, peacefully, on
March 1. She was just 18 days from her 1st birthday. Brother
Nicholas followed her across the bridge six
short weeks later, resting comfortably in his foster
home.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet
goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special
friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and
sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been
ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are
made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and
times gone by.
The animals are happy and
contented, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to
them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day
comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are
intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying
over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
YOU have been spotted, and
when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous
reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your
hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting
eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow
Bridge together....
